NYC – Queens – Astoria – Astoria Park – Triboro Bridge

At the request of a certain persistent regular that I have, here is a NYC story.

The train is always such a fun place. Hopping on the platform at Union Station is always an interesting story, especially when you consider the cast of characters waiting for that precious ride home or abroad. The business man. The extremely gorgeous woman. The mother with crying children. Foreign vacationers. Twenty somethings with their elderly parents.

You get the idea.

As fate would have it, I found myself sitting next to a rather becoming 19 year old by the name of Sarah on this particular voyage to New York. Of course, my intuition (or the ridiculously mushy phone call she made) told me that she was off to see a long lost lover, so I stuck to the plan of reading my Neil Strauss until it was time to turn the game on. For those of you unfamiliar with Neil Strauss but familiar with the DC blogger scene, Roosh’s book would fall in the same genre.

Sarah had no idea I was about to run game on her when she asked if the book I was reading was the Bible. It really is quite comical how the book is designed to look like the bible, complete with the faux leather cover and red velvet placeholder. A few exchanges later I found myself inches away from her face and a minute away from the number-close, all with a few silly phrases that i based loosely off of my reading.

Of course, I decided that I had no use for a 19 year old’s number, even when I met her goofy looking beau. Not that I couldn’t stand to split a teenager in half every now and again, but it was really more out of boredom than anything else.

Anyway, that was probably the most insignificant portion of my trip. Having never traveled to New York before, I was expecting a huge, busy place, and it definitely didn’t disappoint.

It takes a certain type of person to set foot in a place like New York and really get it. Coming from small town America, I know plenty of people who are perfectly happy spending their days living the dream that a small town has to offer, and having lived both there and in NoVA, I see both sides of the coin. New York is the ultimate though… there is nothing bigger, nothing more intimidating and fascinating at the same time. And I get it.

After the general sightseeing that one might expect a New York virgin to pursue (Statue of Liberty, World Trade Center, Wall Street, Times Square, 5th Avenue, Central Park) I took in a broadway show and we ended the weekend with an absolutely amazing night of dancing on Bowery. I realize that I pretty much just yada yada yada’d a lot of this, but I guess the crux of it all is that I get New York, I feel the vibe, and I really felt at home there.

Who knows, maybe someday the white collar charm of chocolate city will make me weary and I will flee. I guess time will tell.

1. New York City is bermazing. I made my first trip over the weekend and it was everything I expected and more. Wow. Wish I had the diligence to elaborate.

2. My work is sucking every ounce of life that I have out of me this week. NOT fun.

3. I have been spending the lion’s share of my free time reading rather than writing. It’s a fun concept try every now and again. i suspect I will ramp up my writing significantly once the new music project starts.

4. My brother moves here on Saturday. I am not ready to have a roommate.

5. My music project is still in it’s infancy… Our goal will be to get good enough to vie for membership in The Federal Reserve, which should be a complex and challenging task.
